Nutrition Tip #1: Easily Lighten Your Meals for Summer

I frequently get asked “how do you eat healthy?”

I’ll let you in on my secret.

Healthy food  is delicious!

Whoa!

Why would I not eat it?

As summer approaches, the focus on healthy eating  is escalating.

Here’s my first tip:

Whenever you can, make fresh greens your entree. Top your greens with your meal.

Why?

  • The crunch of spring mix and/or romaine adds a nice texture and flavor to my meals.
  • Volume-ization: You can eat a bigger meal without feeling as heavy.
  • You are reducing your calorie intake, but increasing your vitamins.

Healthy eating is not about only eating a little or having a page-long list of restrictions.

I believe it is about moderation and balance.

I eat what I feel like or what my Mom serves for dinner – I just eat a smaller serving of it by eating it on a fresh salad.

You should never be hungry.

Eat a serving (or two) – but add vegetables.

The fiber will fill you up without holding you down.

For example:

Brown-rice and vegetable stir-fry topped salad.

So satisfying, so nutritious.

As the weather is getting warmer, it is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Have you tasted a perfectly ripe avocado? It melts in your mouth.

From lasagna to meatballs on salad, this tip can help lighten meals without restricting you.

I have used broccoli slaw, cabbage, spring greens, romaine, bok choy, etc.
