People are always asking
How do you eat healthy when you’re always commuting and on-the-go. Aren’t you too busy?
Isn’t this hypocritical? Don’t you need to feed your body nutritious snacks in order to keep up with day to day life?
Being healthy and busy can go together easily with determination and planning.
On another note, I was cutting a raw butternut squash…
The butternut squash won.
Okay, kickboxing may also have something to do with it.
Sprained right wrist. Un-planned.
Well, this puts a quick pause on the extreme whisking, baking, & mixing.
A girl has got to eat, right?
Healthy Raw Trail Mix
You know how everything looks easier when someone else makes it?
This is so easy, someone one-handed can make it ;)
So, I can’t really say that trail mix is a recipe because you’re mixing whatever ingredients you have on hand, but I do live by two tips:
(1) Buy raw nuts, dried fruit, dark chocolate chips in bulk in order to avoid the expensive smaller packages
(2) Use snack baggies. I love these. I could write an entire post
or two on how they can be used as a tool to rid yourself of “American” food portions…but I’ll spare you for now.
Example Trail Mix Ingredients to have on Hand:
- Raw almonds
- Raw sliced almonds
- Raw walnuts
- Raw pecans
- Organic dried cranberries
- Dried dates
- Dark chocolate chips
- *Sprinkle of coarse salt for the sweet & salty lovers (like me!)
- Snack bags
Choosing 5-10 natural ingredients that you enjoy to keep on hand is the perfect solution to prepping a variety of trail mixes quickly.
**Keep nuts in the refrigerator once opened to keep fresh!
Make a plateful of trail mix and bend the plate to quickly pour into many baggies! Prep snacks for the week so there’s no temptation to grab something less nutritious!
Normally, I would insert my hope for raesofsunshine, but that means…
Awkward tan-line on my right wrist.
I’ll be a homebody for a bit.
To going on picnics, hiking, and snacking on trail mix under raesofsunshine!
Question of the week: What have you broken/sprained? How did it happen & is this the story you told people?
